Virtual Number questions

What exactly is a Virtual Mobile Number?
A VMN is a regular 10-digit Indian mobile number, owned and hosted by us, that exists only to receive inbound SMS. Every text sent to it lands in our system, is matched against your keyword rules, and is forwarded to you in about a second.
Shared vs dedicated, which one do I need?
Pick shared if you have one or two keywords and low to medium volume. Pick dedicated if you need unlimited keywords, want the number printed on your packaging or ads, or are running a production system that can't afford keyword collisions with another brand.
How fast does an inbound SMS reach me?
Typically under 2 seconds from the moment the customer hits send. About 1 second on the carrier-to-VMN leg and another second on the forwarding leg (email, mobile or webhook). Burst traffic on big-event campaigns is handled by our queueing layer with no message loss.
What can I do with an inbound message?
Three things, in any combination per keyword: auto-respond back to the sender, forward to one or more email addresses or another mobile number, and POST a JSON payload to your webhook with sender, keyword, payload and timestamp.
Is the inbound also DLT-bound?
Inbound SMS itself does not require DLT, since the customer is initiating the message to you. However, any auto-response you send back is outbound and must use a DLT-registered template. We assist with the template registration as part of onboarding.
Can I keep the number across plans?
On the dedicated plan, yes, the number is yours for the contract year and renews with you. On the shared plan, the number stays with us and is shared across keywords, so the number itself doesn't carry between accounts (your keywords do).
What about volume beyond the listed plans?
The enterprise dedicated plan has unlimited receiving, so any volume is supported. For very high-throughput campaigns (above 10,000 messages an hour at peak), we set up a dedicated queueing tier. Talk to our team and we will size it for you.
Can a VMN receive OTPs or verification codes?
No. A virtual number cannot receive OTPs or verification codes from any third-party service. That includes social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram and similar) and e-commerce or other websites. Operators deliver those one-time passwords only to regular SIM-based mobile numbers.
Can I use a VMN for personal use?
No. A VMN is a business service for receiving inbound SMS to your own dedicated number (campaign replies and keyword messages). It is meant for business use only, not for personal use or for verifying accounts elsewhere.
