WhatsApp Business API in India
Reach customers where they already reply. Broadcasts, order updates and OTPs from your own systems, on the official Meta platform. Meta's message charges billed directly by Meta.
Send your campaigns on WhatsApp, and answer every reply
Use the WhatsApp Business API to broadcast offers, order updates and reminders to your whole customer list, then handle everyone who replies from one shared inbox. It runs inside the SmsHorizon panel you already use for SMS, on the same wallet and the same reports.
Your message lands in the app your customer already checks all day, next to messages from friends and family. Send images, PDFs and tappable buttons instead of 160 plain characters, and let your whole team reply from one number. Keep SMS for the OTPs and critical alerts that must reach every handset, and let WhatsApp carry the conversations.
Hi Priya, order #SH-48219 will reach you today between 4 and 7 PM. Our partner Ramesh is carrying it.

Message charges are billed by Meta
Meta charges per delivered template message, not per conversation, and bills you directly for it. You always pay the latest published WhatsApp rate, with nothing added by us. Our plan covers the platform.
| Message category | What it is for | Rate per message |
|---|---|---|
| Marketing | Offers, launches, re-engagement | Chargeable |
| Utility | Order updates, payment and account alerts | Chargeable |
| Authentication | OTPs and login verification | Chargeable |
| Service | Your replies inside a 24-hour customer window | Free |
Rates are set by Meta and billed directly to you at the latest published WhatsApp rate for India, so you always pay the current rate rather than one quoted here. Utility messages sent inside an open 24-hour customer service window are free, and a click-to-WhatsApp ad opens a 72-hour window in which all messages are free. Higher monthly volumes unlock lower utility and authentication rates. Ask us for today's rate card.
From signup to first message
You can send on day one. Verification and the badge come later, and neither of them blocks you from starting.
Pick a number
It must not be active on the consumer WhatsApp app. A number on the WhatsApp Business app can be moved across without losing history. Most businesses start with a fresh number and keep the old one for walk-in chats.
Connect through Embedded Signup
Meta's official flow runs inside our panel. You approve access, pick your display name, and your WhatsApp Business Account is created and linked.
MinutesSubmit your first templates
We draft them with you so they clear review the first time. Meta reviews each template and returns a decision.
Up to 24 hoursStart sending
New accounts can start conversations with 250 unique customers in any rolling 24 hours. Replies inside an open customer window do not count against that.
Same dayComplete business verification
This lifts you to 2,000 unique customers a day, raises your number cap from 2 to 20 and your template cap from 250 to 6,000. We prepare the document pack with you.
Meta decides in up to 14 working daysScale up automatically
Once you are sending quality messages and using at least half your limit, Meta raises you through 10,000, 100,000 and finally unlimited. Upgrades apply within 6 hours.
Straight talk about the verified badge
The badge most people still call the green tick is now a blue checkmark, and it is granted through an Official Business Account. It is worth being blunt here, because this is the single most oversold item in the Indian WhatsApp market: nobody can guarantee you the badge, and nobody can guarantee a date. Meta publishes no turnaround time for the decision, and a rejected application cannot be resubmitted for 30 days.
The good news is that it is no longer a judgement about how famous your brand is. Older guidance said you had to be a "notable business" with press coverage. Meta's current request page instead publishes a checklist that an ordinary business can work through:
| Requirement | What it means |
|---|---|
| Policy compliance | No standing violations of the WhatsApp Business Messaging Policy |
| 30 days on the platform | Your number has been registered for at least a month |
| Verification or volume | Completed business verification, or 1,000 conversations over 30 consecutive days |
| Two-step verification | Enabled on the business number |
| Approved display name | Your display name has passed Meta's review |
The realistic floor is therefore about 30 days, and only if verification and display name approval both land inside that window. On the Growth and Business plans we prepare and submit the application for you, and tell you honestly when you are not yet eligible rather than filing an application that burns a 30-day cooldown.
WhatsApp and Indian rules
No DLT registration, and that is official
DLT registration is a TRAI requirement under TCCCPR that governs SMS and voice carried over telecom networks. WhatsApp is an over-the-top service, and TRAI's regulations, including the Second Amendment of February 2025, exclude OTT providers from that scope. There is no PE ID to obtain, no header to register and no template scrubbing with Airtel, Jio or Vi. If you already send SMS through us, your DLT setup is untouched by adding WhatsApp. Be careful of anyone selling you "DLT registration for WhatsApp"; it does not exist.
What does apply: Meta's opt-in rules and DPDP
No DLT does not mean no rules. Meta requires that the customer gave you their number and opted in to hear from you on WhatsApp, with your business named and a way to opt out. You can collect that consent on your website, by SMS, on the phone, in person or on paper, and the burden of proving it sits with you. On top of that sits India's own DPDP framework: the Digital Personal Data Protection Rules were notified in November 2025, they are channel-agnostic, and they require consent that is free, specific, informed and backed by a plain-language notice. The main obligations phase in from May 2027, so the sensible move is to build a clean opt-in trail now.
Quality rating, and how numbers actually get banned
Meta scores every number green, yellow or red based on how often recipients block or report you over a trailing week. A poor rating no longer drags your messaging limit down, but it does stop you moving up, and sustained abuse runs an enforcement ladder: a warning, then a block on template sends, then a block on all messaging, then permanent disablement. Sending to purchased lists and dressing marketing up as utility templates are two of the fastest ways onto that ladder. This is also why we will not support unofficial bulk WhatsApp sender tools at any price.
What businesses send on WhatsApp
E-commerce
Order confirmations, shipping updates with tracking buttons, delivery photos, and abandoned-cart nudges that customers can reply to.
Banking & finance
Authentication templates for OTPs, statement and due-date alerts, and KYC document collection in a thread the customer can search later.
Healthcare
Appointment confirmations and reminders, report-ready notifications with a secure link, and refill nudges patients answer directly.
Education
Fee reminders, admission status, timetable and result notifications to parents, with a reply channel for the office.
Real estate
Site-visit confirmations, brochure and floor-plan PDFs, and follow-ups that continue in one thread instead of scattered calls.
Logistics
Pickup and ETA updates, reschedule buttons, and proof-of-delivery images sent back into the same conversation.
Which WhatsApp do you actually need?
Most businesses start on the free app and hit a wall. Here is exactly where that wall is.
| What you need | WhatsApp Business app | WhatsApp Business API |
|---|---|---|
| Cost | Free | Platform plan + Meta per-message charge |
| Team members on one number | Limited, phone-bound | Yes, whole team from a web panel |
| Send from your own software | No | Yes, REST API and webhooks |
| Bulk campaigns | Small labelled lists only | Yes, approved templates at scale |
| Automated order updates and OTPs | No | Yes, triggered by your system |
| Verified badge possible | No | Yes, via Official Business Account |
| Best for | One person, walk-in conversations | Teams, automation, scale |
Indian businesses cannot create a WhatsApp Business Account directly in Meta Business Suite. Meta requires you to onboard through a solution provider, which is the route we handle for you.
WhatsApp, SMS or RCS?
They solve different problems. Most of our customers run more than one.
| SMS | RCS | ||
|---|---|---|---|
| Reaches every handset | Yes | Needs WhatsApp installed | Needs a supported phone and network |
| App required | None | None, uses default Messages | |
| Rich media and buttons | No | Yes | Yes |
| Two-way conversation | Limited | Yes | Yes |
| Opt-in needed first | DLT consent rules | Yes, Meta opt-in | No, works like SMS |
| India regulation | TRAI DLT | Meta policy, not DLT | Brand and carrier verification |
| Best at | OTPs and guaranteed reach | Conversations and support | Rich messages without an app |
Running more than one channel? See RCS Business Messaging or transactional SMS. All three share one panel, one wallet and one set of reports.
